Use the GC-Mark to market halal products and to convince potential customers that the product is suitable for the Muslim population.

With over 40 million Muslims in Europe, and 1.6 billion worldwide, the Muslim population constitutes a crucial market segment. According to an estimate by the U.N., 55 % of the European population will be Muslim by 2040.  The conclusion is clear: companies who manage to take into account the particularities of Islamic culture will discover unprecedented opportunities for growth.

One of those opportunities is the development of goods and services that can be characterized as halal. The term “halal” derives from Arabic and refers to products and services that comply with Islamic regulations.

Muslims all over the world consider it absolutely necessary to eat halal food, and to avoid anything that contains pork or pork fat – even food that has been cooked in the same oil used to cook pork is strictly avoided.

The GC-Mark for Halal Products confirms that a product complies with Islamic regulations. Competent DQS auditors carry out an on-site assessment to analyze the production process and to conform that the product can be qualified as halal. A certificate is issued if the product conforms to the internationally recognized standard for halal products, MS 1500:2009. This is especially relevant for food and cosmetics.

Manufacturers can use the GC-Mark to market halal products and to convince potential customers that the product is suitable for the Muslim population.

The GC-Mark for Halal Certified:

  • Is based upon an on-site inspection
  • Can be applied directly to products
